Why Vlogging is a good idea. In theory.

I tried.

For Mama Kat’s Writer’s Workshop, I was going to do a cute Vlog for you to talk about how my blog name (and kidlets’ names) came to be.

I failed miserably.

But don’t take my word for it.  This Vlog is proof that I should never be behind a camera.  Ever.

If you watched that whole thing, thank you.  I know.  I owe you 125 seconds of your life that you will never get back.  However, if you want the real story about how my kids’ monikers came into existence, you can read my very first (public) blog post.

And from now on, I will let other people rock the Vlogs.  Because that is clearly not my forte.

  1. You’re hilarious. This is exactly why I’ve never attempted a Vee Log. At least you look pretty. Either I’m a lot uglier than I think I am or…likely it’s that.

  2. 🙂 lol Yeah I don’t vlogs either. But you are adorable and it’s cool to meet the person behind the words.

  3. This veelog is better than at least 60% of the crap on YouTube.

Since I wrote anonymously, I guess I’d have to vlog like I were a criminal and censor my face. Trust me – that’s for your protection, not mine ;-P

  4. And this is why I don’t vlog, though it would help to show cooking techniques sometimes. I think. Still, this was adorable. Maybe I just like knowing that other people are human too. 🙂

    1. Ummm, I’ve seen some of the recipes you post. They look sooo good. I fear that if you did a vlog of your cooking, you would have me running all over town trying to find the ingredients for deep fried pickles.

  5. This is EXACTLY why I don’t v-log (I used to thing it was V Log too so don’t feel bad!) If I ever tried to do one, it would turn out exactly like this!!

Seriously, this is one of the best posts I’ve read all week! I’m including it in my Saturday faves 🙂

  6. Love it. You are adorable and hey we can hear your and see you and that is better than a lot I see. I am actually starting to like vlogging. We’ll see though. It’s harder than it looks right?

  7. TOO CUTE!! Love it…I wish I knew how to ad the words on the vlog. I’ve been posting vlogs for about 10 weeks now and cant’ figure out how to do anything other than record and upload. SO, you did GREAT!! I think they are meant to be natural and fun – from your heart. The first 3 I did, I had a script, EVERYONE could TOTALLY tell – now? I just wing it – do ONE take {sometimes 2, bur rarely} and SAVE. =)

I’m SO glad I stopped by…YOU brought a BIG smile to my face – AND I needed that this morning, so thank you!! =)

    Keeping it Personal,
    Teri Johnson

    1. Hi Teri! I used Microsoft Windows Live Movie Maker, and it made inserting the words really easy… even for a newbie like me. I will have to check out your vlogs… I’m impressed you do it in one take!

  8. Cracked me the frick up. I love this veelog. Thank you for the laugh, I really, really needed it today. I think you are great. Please do more veelogs.

  9. You know why I’m disappointed? Cuz you weren’t wearing your glasses and H.O.T. eyebrows!

  10. Ummm, hello??? Am I the only one who thinks this was perfect and adorable? You look great, lighting was great, you EDITED! I mean seriously…I forbid you from giving up on this! It was hilarious!

  11. Don’t give up! It gets easier – really! You got a great response from your readers – and you already figured out editing; which is huge for many people. You also did great with lighting and sound – two other major pitfalls. Don’t worry about what it’s called. 🙂

  12. This is so funny. I was like, “Really? It’s called a vee-log? Huh… learn something new every day,” and then you were like, “Yeah, I need to learn how to pronounce ‘vlog’.” LOL. And the very last segment had me cracking up.

I would be the exact same way if I ever tried to do a “vee-log.” I can weave words on paper just fine, but I can’t speak in public to save my life.

  13. You are way too cute. Digging that new oven behind you!
I love having a voice and mannerisms to put with your words. And I hate to admit, when you said, V-log, I thought, “Crap, I thought it was vlog.” Cracked up as I read your subtitles.

  14. You should really continue vlogging because it was hilarious. If you add the kids with you in it the vlogging is easier because they provide entertainment.

    1. I think that is a brilliant idea adding the kids next time. They NEVER have a problem getting the words out. You may have convinced me to give it another try… some day. 🙂

    1. I used Windows Live Movie Maker. I’d never used it before, and it was pretty easy to figure out… even for a bumbling idiot like myself. I’d definitely use it again… if I do another vlog.

  15. I loved this!

It was actually nice to hear your voice (is that a weird comment?). Anyway, you know how you imagine someone would sound or even look in person is often different than they do. I think V-logs just add that extra dimension to getting to know people online. However, I don’t blame you for not wanting to do that again. It looked painful.

P.S. I noticed your new bacon maker in the background. Very nice!

    1. It was painful. Kind of like plucking your eyebrows painful. 🙂

PS: And, yes, the new bacon maker is our good friend already. Have you tried bacon in the microwave, yet? 🙂

  16. the only video of me you’ll ever see online was that one time, when i wanted to be on the bachelor. now? just the back of my head, people.

    1. I don’t know if I’d recognize you without looking at the back of your head, anyway. You know that if you ever did a vlog, you’d have to film it backwards… so people could see your pigtails.

  17. You are so funny. I’m sure you were just making it seem difficult for effect because I cannot imagine you not knowing what to say or how to say it. Ever.

Me, on the other hand, Vlogging is very difficult for me. I never know what to say or how to say it and then when I try I usually end up with my foot in my mouth. It is good to watch your own attempts at vlogging (even if you don’t end up publishing it) because you learn a lot about yourself. I tried my “how to cut a builders mirror” about 7 times and finally edited out everything but a few seconds and even then put music over my voice altogether. I did learn that I sniff and say “Ummm” and “Like”…like every 3 seconds. Gotta work on that. snnnifff! Ummmmm, ok.

I agree that you should keep it up. And also, I too am digging the shiny cooking machines behind you. I thought you said you needed a house makeover. Ummmmm. I don’t think so!

    1. Ummm, there were, like, several clips where I totally inserted foot in mouth. Those didn’t make the cut. (Sniff).

The cooking machine is new (hooray!) I think you missed the post about the microwave/bacon maker breaking in the midst of your move. It was a tragic, tragic time at our house. But we’re doing better now.

  18. That was great! I loved the editing. I’ve never attempted a vlog and have no plans to, so I think yours was perfect!
